FREE Printable 'Let's Do Cocktails' Cards | October 03, 2012

As promised, here's the final installment in the "Let's Do" series. Go forth and make cocktail dates with your friends!

EDIT OCT 5th: Ok, so here's the thing. Turns out I accidently used an older version of the card in the photo shoot which is why the lettering is different in this photo as compared to the PDF artwork. Whoops! Anyway, I've now included both versions for you to download. Apologies!

Weekend Projects | September 21, 2012

The weekend is almost upon us and the first project for me to tackle is catching up on some much-needed sleep! I've recently found myself trapped in a ridiculous little ritual. Each morning at some dark, god-forsaken hour, I wake to an onslaught of thoughts and project ideas for this blog and for our home.... It then takes me hours to get back to sleep.

Speaking of ideas, I recently came up with this cute and simple little DIY project...

Believe me, nobody hates the idea of hacking up magazines more than I do but there is so much seriously beautiful photography going on in cooking mags these days (the rustic textures, the vibrant colours, the scrummy styling...) that I thought it would be great to turn fragments of these images into gift tags. Or, perhaps more fittingly, tags to attach to cutlery for table-setting decorations.

Cut out some visually interesting segments from your magazine (in a uniform size), then stick them onto thick kraft card and cut to size. Punch a hole at the top and attach some twine. Voila.

I find the best mags are the ones that use thick, rough-textured, matte stock. Jamie Magazine is a great example.

Of course, If you're super lazy like me and don't mind spending a little extra money on the project, you can cheat and get these awesome heavy-weight kraft tags and just stick the magazine cuttings directly onto them.

Oh, and if you really hate the idea of hacking up your mag, just buy a second copy to keep!

There's a weekend project for ya.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the weekend. Apart from catching up on sleep and tackling some decorating projects I'm also intent on spending some quality time with Sukie in our (newly tidied up) backyard. She has a new toy that has actually survived an entire week. It's still fully intact and functioning. We're so proud.

Happy Friday! xo

FREE Printable "Let's Do Coffee" Cards | September 03, 2012

Ahhh... coffee. I gave up caffeine a number of years ago because I found that it did strange things to both my mood and my stomach. When I say 'strange', I don't mean in a good way.

I deeply miss coffee.  Especially that first cup in the morning that provides you with the all-important ability to function as a normal human being. In truth, I find the ritual of it more compelling than the actual taste. Also the social aspect-  sharing a cup of coffee over a deep and meaningful (and oftentimes, not so deep and meaningful!) with a friend.

So, for all you lucky coffee drinkers out there, (as envious as I am of you all), I've designed these "Let's do Coffee" cards that you can use to make coffee dates with friends. They are business card size which means that you can carry them around in your wallet.

Furthermore, I was inspired to create a series of "Let's Do" cards. Above is a sneak peek.... I will be releasing the other two soon!

Mia Oatley | August 30, 2012

I've been hunting down some artwork to decorate our very bare, white walls and recently ordered my very first piece! I was so excited when this stunning Mia Oatley print arrived in the mail a couple of weeks ago.  It's called "Mid Summer Nights Dream" and it's off getting framed right now. Looking forward to hanging it up above the new couch!

I'm completely enamoured with all of Mia's gorgeous work.  See below!

Check out more of the prints she has available in her online shop.

I'm still here! | August 27, 2012

Ack! It's been quite awhile since my last post. What a slacker! In truth, I was a little under the weather last week, my sincerest apologies for the lack of updates. The good news is I'm currently working furiously on some freebies for you all! Hope to get them up this week!

In other news, I've been looking for small ways to do up our kitchen. I decided to put part of my collection of bowls on display rather than hiding them away in a cupboard. Our kitchen is grey, grey, grey and needs some brightening up and a little bit of 'colourful clutter' makes it feel a lot more homey. Also, I'm a firm believer that if you're a collector, you should display your collections prominently in your home. Surround yourself with the things you love!

I also acquired these lovely amber jars from Market Lane Coffee in Prahran Market. All my kitchen needs now is some bright and colourful artwork for the walls above- I see a fun DIY project in my future :)

By the way, I'm always on the hunt for more bowls. If you see some pretty ones, let me know!

London Style Guide by Saska Graville | August 16, 2012

Whenever I travel, it's not about rushing to the most popular tourist attraction or taking happy snaps of awe-inspiring natural wonders. For me it's about city life and all it's glorious and colourful details. Weeks before I go, I usually mark every destination meticulously in Google Maps- the quirky boutiques, the funky hotels, the restaurants and cafes, the bakeries and patisseries, the ice-cream parlours and candy stores...

Last weekend I picked up a copy of London Style Guide by Saska Graville. (Published by Murdoch Books). Similar to Sibella Court's 'The Stylist's Guide to NYC', this book is PACKED with inspiring 'style' destinations and would be essential in planning a dream trip!

With the aid of stunning photography by Jessica Reftel Evans and Martin Reftel, this book captures all the exciting visual minutiae that makes someone like myself weak at the knees. Details such as... drool-worthy, vintage cake displays at pretty patisseries...

...a row of mismatched chairs at a whimsical canteen...

...the vibrant pops of colour at a local farmers market...

...the rustic and industrial styling at a cosy cafe...

...all the colourful and quirky wonders of independent fashion and homeware boutiques...

and the list goes on...

Now that I've got this book, I would love to visit London and see all this delicious eye candy for myself. PIty it's a 22 hour flight to get there! *Shudder*

Check out London Style Guide right here.

Magic Carpet Ride | August 08, 2012

We love our dog Sukie, but she is a bona fide nutball.

The latest is that she's developed a phobia of the doorway to Mark's office. Yes, you heard right. The doorway.

She's perfectly fine if she's either side of it, but it's the experience of going through the doorway itself that is inexplicably traumatic. Even dog treats will not tempt her.

On the odd occasion, however, her determination will outweigh her fears and she will attempt to make a sudden, mad dash through to the other side. In a spectacle that soon becomes akin to a scene from a Looney Tunes cartoon, Sukie's claws, scurrying frantically, fail to get a grip on the polished floorboards and she is unable to propel herself forward. She finds herself suspended in some kind of comical, roadrunner-esque motion loop in the doorway for what seems like an eternity. Her efforts to expedite the traumatic experience, backfiring drastically.

This predicament has made Sukie a little glum. She usually enjoys lying by Mark's side while he works but now all she can do is poke her head around the door and stare at him longingly.

Mark also misses her company and so, in a stroke of genius, was able to come up with this clever solution: He lays down her dog bed in front of her and coaxes her onto it. He then slides the dog bed through the evil doorway until she and her bed have safely reached the other side.

We call this the Magic Carpet ride. And it works a treat.

We know, however, this is not an ideal fix. It will take time and a whole lot of positive reinforcement to get her traversing that doorway confidently again.

Mark's been a bit down because of the situation but has, unfortunately for me, managed to retain his sense of humour.

Mark: "I hate it when I can't fix things... I don't know why but I just need to fix what's broken"
Me (jokingly):"Is that why you're with me?"
Mark:"Nah, you're not broken. You're just a little... bent"

DIY Tags- Fun with Watercolours... | August 03, 2012

So I promised you another 'Bon Appetit' cutlery tag freebie. However, I'm still awaiting those props I ordered. {Sigh}. Crossing my fingers and toes in the hope that they'll arrive next week.

In the meantime, I thought I'd play around with watercolour paints...

These are just a bit of fun and super-easy to do. Using thick watercolour paper (not exceeding 280gsm) I've cut out tag shapes with a craft punch then basically just messed around to see what kinds of pretty and striking colour effects I can make with watercolour paints, (e.g, gradients, colour-blocking, etc.)  Nothing fancy, just keeping it simple. I've then used some mini alphabet stamps and coloured inks, to print some messages on them. Voila. Easy as pie.

You can use them to decorate gifts or to add a splash of colour to a table-setting!

Happy Friday! xo

Looking forward to... | July 31, 2012

...our next shindig (whenever that may be), so I can show off my tumbler collection!..

... and stir up some Lemonade with orange blossom water. I fell in love with this beautiful drink after tasting it for the first time at Mama Ganoush (a lovely middle eastern restaurant in Windsor). I generally make it whenever we entertain- it's been popular with guests. Awesome with sparkling water, instead of still. Make sure to grab the recipe!

FREEBIE: 'Bon Appetit' cutlery tags { Part One } | July 27, 2012

As you probably have figured out, I love details. I'm a consummate 'details' nerd.

Some might say that attaching a tag to your dinner party guest's cutlery that wishes them 'bon appetit'  is gratuitous nonsense. I, on the other hand, live for this stuff.

You know you do too.
