Coffee, Design & Rock n' Roll
![]()
For many years I thought I was a graphic designer.
As a student I was one of the hapless throng of David Carson wannabes. Lost in the haze of pre-workforce years, wide-eyed and highly caffeinated, I embraced the naïve aspiration to one day achieve design rockstardom.
When I finally entered the workforce I realised that those series of skills I had finely honed throughout my formative years were dramatically under-utilised and I was suddenly faced instead with the need to develop mind-reading skills, the need to develop effective verbal persuasion techniques, a coffee induced ulcer and above all, an insurmountable chasm between where I was and where I wanted to be.
I blame David Carson.
What attracted me to Carson’s career was his exciting visual style. He pushed aesthetics into the forefront of his designs, leading me to believe a career in design would allow me to do so. However, his seductive ‘rock-star’ career path, though desired by many, was attained by very few. Where Carson obviously had the passion to make this dream a success, I was clearly lacking in this essential ingredient.
Upon discovering at a party that I was hosting that I cared a little too much about the placement and colour of the food on the buffet table, I realised my true passion was, in fact, in pure aesthetics, in beautiful colours and beautiful things. That I was, in fact, a stylist.
Eat Drink Chic is an exploration of style.
Fusing my design background with do-it-yourself craft projects, I’m seeking to inject style into day to day life. Parties, weddings, interiors, homemaking... I’m also discovering new hats to wear- photographer, photostylist, collector, researcher, event designer and writer- and I’m loving every minute of it.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Amy
